Off the Cuff itself collects nothing. No accounts, no sign-in, no servers of ours, no analytics, no crash reporting service, no advertising, no personal data sent to us. Your recordings, transcripts, episodes, and scripts live only on your own phone. Recording, audio mastering, and transcription all run on your device. Your audio leaves your phone only when you export or share it yourself.
We wrote this policy to be readable. The sections below explain exactly what the app does with data, in plain language.
Off the Cuff is a voice podcast studio developed and published by Diego Cordova (d/b/a BlackBox Tools). The whole studio is free to use; exporting a finished episode or take requires the paid Pro subscription described in Section 7. This policy covers the mobile app only. It does not cover the platforms that distribute the app (Google Play and the Apple App Store) or any service you choose to send an exported file to, each of which has its own privacy policy.
We do not collect, receive, store, sell, rent, share, or otherwise process your personal data on any server of ours, because we do not operate any servers. The app has no user accounts and no login. We cannot hear your recordings, read your transcripts, or see your episodes, and we could not produce that data even if asked, because it exists only on your device.
The app uses no analytics and no crash-reporting service. We do not know how many times you open the app, what you record, or what features you use.
Everything. All of the following is stored only in the app's private local storage on your phone:
Deleting the app deletes all of this data. There is no copy anywhere else unless you created one yourself with the export or share features.
Audio and text leave your phone only when you make it happen: exporting an episode master, sharing a take, exporting a transcript, captions, chapters, or a PDF. In every case the file goes to the app, service, or person you chose, and we never receive a copy.
The app's only network use is downloading its processing models, once each, when you first need them:
After a model is downloaded, everything it does runs on your phone. No audio, no transcript, and no personal data is ever uploaded for processing. If you never enable a feature that needs a model, the app makes no network requests at all.
The Pro subscription that unlocks exporting is processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see your name, card number, or billing details. Subscription state may be managed through RevenueCat, a subscription-management service, which would receive a randomly generated pseudonymous identifier and your purchase state so the app can unlock exporting and restore your purchase on a new device. RevenueCat does not receive your name, email, recordings, or content. RevenueCat's privacy policy.
While you record, the app can show rough live captions using your phone's own speech recognizer, configured for on-device recognition. The transcript the app keeps is produced separately by the app's own transcription engines, entirely on your device. The operating system's recognizer is part of your phone's software and is governed by your device maker's privacy policy; you can turn live captions off in the app's settings at any time.
The app asks for permissions only when a feature needs them:
Off the Cuff is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and because the app collects no personal data, we hold no information about any user of any age.
Laws like the EU and UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act give you rights over personal data a company holds about you: access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, and objection. Our honest answer to any such request is that we hold nothing to produce, correct, or delete. Your data is on your device, under your control:
We do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA, and we have no data with which to do so. We do not respond to Do Not Track signals because we do no tracking to turn off.
Your recordings are protected by your device's own security: the app's storage is private to the app, protected by your device lock, and covered by your phone's encryption when enabled. Because nothing is stored on servers, there is no server to breach.
We retain nothing, so there is no retention period. Recordings and projects on your device stay until you delete them. Files you exported are retained wherever you sent them, for as long as you keep them.
We transfer no data internationally, because we receive no data. The one-time model downloads described in Section 6 are served from wherever those public hosts operate.
If the app's behavior changes in a way that affects privacy, we will update this policy, change the effective date at the top, and highlight material changes in the update notes. The current version is always available at this page.
